Here is a relatively simple free blue chromis (tropical fish) amigurumi crochet pattern as part of my Sea Life Mobile project.
With a baby on the way, I am excited to make him all the things. One of the first things I set out to make was a mobile for over his crib and changing table. Here is the sixth and final animal for my sea life baby mobile: a blue Chromis fish!
This little chromis is made in 3 parts: the body and the two fins, similar to the tang. It is stitched in Knit Picks Mighty Stitch in Gulf Stream, with a 4mm hook. Gauge is not important. A larger hook and thicker yarn will result in a larger amigurumi.
My tang's body is 4.5 inches long, 2.5 inches tall, and just under 1 inch thick with stuffing.
Body:
Row 1:Â 5 sc in a magic ring. Row 2:Â 2 sc in first st, [sc, 2 sc in next st] repeat twice. (8 sts) Row 3:Â [2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc 2] repeat twice. (12 sts) Row 4:Â [sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc 3] repeat twice. (16 sts) Row 5:Â [sc 2, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc 4] repeat twice. (20 sts) Row 6:Â sc 3, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc 15. (22 sts) Row 7:Â sc 4, 2 sc in each of next 2 sts, sc 16. (24 sts) Rows 8-12:Â sc in each st around. (24 sts) Row 13:Â sc 6, sc2tog twice, sc14. (22 sts) Rows 14-15:Â sc in each st around. (22 sts) Row 16:Â sc 5, sc2tog twice, sc 8, sc2tog, sc 3. (19 sts) Row 17:Â sc 4, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, sc 5, sc2tog twice, sc. (15 sts) Row 18:Â sc 3, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, sc 4, sc2tog, sc. (12 sts) Row 19:Â sc 2, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, sc 5. (10 sts) Row 20:Â sc, sc2tog, sc, sc2tog, sc 3. (8 sts) Â Â Â Â Stuff lightly, keeping the fish flat. Rows 21-22:Â sc in each st around. (8 sts) Row 23:Â Flatten the tail, insert you hook in the next st and across into the stitch just made, sc 4 across the tail inserting your hook in the next st and the stitch across to close.
Left: Insert your hook across both sides of the tail opening.
Right: sc both sides of the tail opening together to add the tail fin.
Row 24:Â ch 5, picot, (dtc, ch, tc, ch, dc) in the first st, ch, sc 2, ch, (dc, ch, tc, ch, dtc) in the last st, picot, ch 4, sl st in the last st. Â Â Â Â Tie off.
