With the beginning of Spring, I am excited to get wear lighter lace scarves again. While I love my Sunshine Pineapples Scarf, it's time to add a new scarf to my wardrobe. And so I created this Crown Imperial Lace Scarf. It's based on Arts and Crafts era ceramic tile designs from "Plants and Their Application to Ornament: A Nineteenth-Century Design Primer" by Eugène Grasset from 1897.
I love buying nice yarn, but often can't really afford to purchase more than one hank of the really nice stuff. But, most of my patterns and ideas require at least 2 skeins of yarn so I never know what to do when I only get 1 skein. To give myself something worthy of a small length of really nice yarn, I designed this pattern as a 1-skein scarf (at least 400m). The pattern repeat is 32 rows long that can be repeated to make a scarf of any length. It has 2 different rows to end at (rows 17 or 33) so you can just repeat the pattern until you run out of yarn.
This pattern was originally created in 435 yds of sock yarn (some amazingly soft Wooly Wonka Nimue Sock (50% silk, 50% merino wool) yarn) with a 3.75mm (F) hook, but any fingering, sock, or sport weight yarn will look great. My finished and blocked scarf is 9.5 inches wide and 6.75 feet long.

Special Stitches:
2 dc-bobble: yarn over (YO), insert your hook in the stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on the hook), pull a loop though 2 loops on the hook (2 loops on the hook), YO, insert your hook in the same st and pull up a loop (4 loops on the hook), pull a loop though 2 loops on the hook (3 loops on the hook), pull a loop through all 3 loops on the hook.
Note:
When asked to stitch "in the ch-3 space", for instance, you are supposed to stitch around the whole chain and not into the center chain.

Block the scarf according to your yarn's fiber content (steam block for acrylic, wet block for natural fibers) to 9.5 inches (24 cm) wide.
